Yoshimitsu - Deck 04

Stopped playing with Kazuya for a while to go back to Old Faithful (Yoshimitsu). Made a new deck that works really well against the current meta. So far no problems versus 3rd card buffing punch deck Lili, or One Hit KO Paul. At the time of writing, I am currently 1270 and in my last 10~12 games, haven't "lost" (I have had a couple draws but no losses). Surprisingly haven't run into many Kazuya's (lol), but I imagine this deck wouldn't fair too poorly as long as it follows this strategy.

The Deck
  • 3x Tsuka Splitter: 20 Damage, Punch, Before the attack: Strike & K&P cards owned: 3rd card +15 Hit
  • 3x Sakanobori: 12 Damage, Kick, Before the attack: Block: +1 Parry
  • 1x Poison Breath: 5 Damage, Punch, After the attack: This card appears: Opp -30 HP
  • 1x Kimon Matagi: 20 Damage, Punch, After the attack: Opp HP ≥ 75: +10 HP
  • 1x Tobi Ushiwaka: 15 Damage, Kick, After the attack: Block & Opp Focus: +1 card
  • 1x Aratama: 5 Damage, Punch, After the attack: Opp Focus: Card +50 Hit
  • 1x Kamikaze: 21 Damage, Kick, After the attack: Focus, Cards = 5: Both -5 cards & Opp -45 HP
  • 3x Shisetsu Genman: 16 Damage, Kick, After the attack: Cards = Opp cards: +1 card & Opp -1 card
  • 1x 1x Magatama: 20 Damage, Kick, After the attack: HP ≤ Opp Hp: +25 HP & Cards concealed
  • Power Card: 175 HP First turn: +2 concealed cards & Opp +1 card

This is one of my first decks of the form 3 3 3 and 6 unique cards. At first, I was skeptic
al towards using it, but after 10 games, or so, I felt the consistency is pretty good. The speed of this deck is extremely slow, so it is necessary to make those strikes count. Fortunately Tobi Ushikawa, Shisetsu Genman, and Aratama can aid in getting "safe" card draws and the many defense cards will prevent focus breaks from occuring.

Strategy

Yoshimitsu from Soul Calibur
Yoshimitsu
The deck draws it strength from defense and card control. The healing cards from Magatama and Kimon Matagi are very important to take note of. If drawn together in 1 hand, it would be wise to do your best to prolong the game till you reach the end of the card cycle. This can be done by playing safe and going for safe draws via Tobi Ushiwaka or Shisetsu Genman. If you need to prolong the game and you have card advantage and Sakanobori, consider blocking till the opponent strikes or 5 cards are discarded. Sakanobori is an amazing defense card for prolonging the game.

Tsuka Splitter is solely for damage as this deck is extremely lacking in damage. I do not advise striking unless you have a good card advantage or a strong life lead. I usually go for 3~5 card strikes, most of the time it is when the opponent has 0 cards or 1. If Tsuka Splitter is not in your deck of 5 cards, it may be a good idea to triple block 5 card discard because the damage you deal with your last 3 cards may not be worth the card advantage your opponent has after the strike.

Do your best to drop opponent's HP to 75+ so Kimon Matagi will always be in effect. Don't be afraid to throw away a 1~2 card advantage in hopes of getting Shisetsu Genman or Aratama off because prolonging the game usually means more heals for you and when Cards = Opp Cards (as it will be after a 5 card discard), you have more chance(s) for Shisetsu Genman to go off. If the opponent blocks and gives you card advantage, you can continue to focus. Again, if you just drew Shisetsu Genman, consider blocking for it's effect to go off.

Conclusion

I think this deck performs quite well in the current metagame of High Damage Paul and Lili. Parries aid extremely well against these 2. Regarding Kazuya, it is important to know WHEN TO STRIKE (not only for this deck) as it is inevitable for this deck to have to fight a berserker Kazuya. A useful tip is to bring them to below 80 only from the result of Kamikaze or when they have 0 cards. I try to drop Kazuya's to 111+ HP and let Poison Breath go to 81. At the high 1200's, good Kazuya's will fish for strikes by blocking attacks that will drop them to 85 +/- 4HP, in this way, I will either get a strong card advantage and can proceed to bring him to below 80, or keep fishing for Poison Breath/Kamikaze.

Don't forget to comment, ask questions, like, subscribe, etc. I am always open to suggestions or any forms of criticism =].

I will give it a try.
I am suffering a lot against lili, again.

    1. I haven't lost to a Lili with this deck, I did however tie a 1375 Lili. The parries just murder those 3rd card buffers and the Shisetsu Genman along with Sakanobori really counter the Elysee Le Bras Allonge SR card (Strike: Both -5 cards & Both +4 cards).

Paul also has a hard time dealing with this deck when played patiently. The parries force him to focus to 4+ cards and the Shisetsu Genman makes 2 focuses actually 1, so he spends more time taking damage from Opp Block: -10 Damage or , Cards >= 3: -20 Damage.

As For Kazuya, that's a tough match, I try to leave them at 111 HP and fish for the Poison Breath card. Then I use Kamikaze to deal the 45 Damage and leave him at 36 HP. If things works out perfectly, he should be at 36 HP to your 175, and Kazuya will have 0 cards. Realistically it is more like 130 HP versus 45 and Kazuya has 1 card. If that 1 card is Twin Fang Double Kick and your 1 card ISN'T sakanobori, you might lose, lol.

Xiaoyu matches are still dice roll but if you prolong the match and manage to fish out a healing card, you may stand a chance.

  2. It looks promising. I decided to drop the 3x Tsuka Splitter in favor of 3 Nozuchi Fumi. Since many attacks are with 4-5 cards, they are more effective against a (likely) block.

I already met other yoshimitsus with your deck. With them the battle is particularly interesting :)

  3. Like i alrdy said, i m a kazuya player (i play heihachi too) but i would go for a yosh build. I find him low tier for the moment but your build look realy cool. I ll wait for the balance update this week, see if the meta is going to change in order to go for this deck or not ;)

    1. Big buffs to Yoshi's healing cards! Lili still looks very strong. Lili, Kazuya, and Paul all received nerfs but I don't think it is enough to alter the meta. I may try a healing Yoshi deck, but I don't like the idea of games taking over 5 minutes, tThis deck has pretty lengthy games).

    2. Yeap. It looks like your build is still VERY effective, since lili is still truly OP. Btw, the nerf on paul is in the back fire, not in paul strike power. He still can 1shot you so tanking is rly important, and your build is here for that. Btw, if you can handle the one shot strike, the nerf make it easier to win ...

Btw, if you could try an healing deck and compare it in the current meta, i would know witch one is the best to have in order to buy the right cards ;)

      Thank you so much :)

    1. Hi Sincerity, Sorry for the long wait. I try to get quality decks out but to be honest, I haven't come across a strong Nina deck (I am currently in the 1230 of this week). As of right now, I am mostly running into:
Kazuya's that build off of 3x Skull Smasher and 3x Twin Fang Double Kick, with Devastator and some variation between the last 8 cards.
Lili's using Rose Pique, Direct Persuasion, Peacock Waltz, and 1 or 2 monte carlo snaps with some variation between SR card, Shears to Spinning edge, Raffelsia, etc.
and Paul's using hte OHKO deck

When I run into a Nina at the 1200+ level, I will make a guide. Also, I have been on a Hiatus from blogging lately, lol.

    2. Hey King of iron fist,

Im trying some Nina decks atm too but I couldn't find any that works good. I begin to think that Nina Is useless now after they nerfed SLK and Maybe I should just drop her.

    3. I saw a good Nina Kick deck It had PK Combo to Scythe and Stiletto Heel, worked great but lacked heals.

  5. I am having good results with a healing deck in the low 1200s.
It is not perfect (so many P cards make it difficult for Tsuka Splitter to trigger. I am thinking to Oni Kick Combo as a substitute) and have some choices that can be discussed (I removed Sakanobori), but I am open for suggestions.
    This is my current deck:

    - 3x Tsuka Splitter
    - Poison Breath
    - Mumyo Juji Ken
    - Aratama
    - Tenshu Kuzushi
    - Heshikirigari
    - Kurama Itto
    - 2x Soul Stealer
    - Kamikaze
    - Kimon Matagi
    - Tobi Ushiwaka
    - Magatama

    1. Hi Kubric,

I tried playing with the heal cards, they are REALLY good, but they lack a LOT of power. to compensate, why not try Nozuchi Fumi in place of Tsuka Splitter. I really enjoy the Soul Stealer Healers as oppose to the Kurama Itto because I don't like to do predictable Blocks.

From the look of your deck, it is quite all over the place with no actual consistency, I useed something like this when I first started playing (lol). Try to do a 3 3 3 3 1 1 1 build (that is 3x of one card, 3x of another, 3x of another...) for consistency. Or even a 3 3 3 1 1 1 1 1 1.

Although the healing is really nice. It is really difficult to KO them if they are also a healer. The damage is just not there.

  6. This one is working better:

    - Magatama
    - 3x Nozuchi Fumi
    - 3x Sakanobori
    - Poison Breath
    - Heshikirigari
    - Kurama Itto
    - 2x Soul Stealer
    - Kamikaze
    - Kimon Matagi
    - Tobi Ushiwaka

    1. Your deck looks pretty good now. More consistent. You may consider taking out Kurama Itto Heshikirigari and Poison Breath for 2 other cards. Although I am a fan of Poison Breath, it does not really offer any utility and it only synergizes well with Draw cards like Dragon Fly Fist, SHisetsu Genman, Spirited Away as well as Mumyo Juji Ken. I like Heshikirigari a lot too for the damage and (before the latest balance update) the Heal but now I find little use for it with all the other heal cards being updated. As for Kurama Itto, I just don't like playing block just for health lol.

  7. Hi, in absence of Magatama, currently I play:

2x Tsuka splitter- 3x Sakanobori- Poison Breath- Heshikirigari- Kurama Itto- Soul Stealer- Kimon Matagi- 3x Shisetsu Genman - Tobi Ushiwaka - Seiken Douharai

I prefer Tsuka Splitter because Nozuchi Fumi hit only if it is from 3rd to 5th and if opponent blocks (and he will not block because my first two cards are less than 35).
When I will have money for other two Soul Stealer I will exclude probably Kurama Itto (which is pretty good with Tobi Ushiwaka) and probably Seiken Douharai (which is another card like Tsuka Splitter, that pumps your other cards. Moreover Seiken is good because forces your opponent to focus and you can hit him!).

    1. Hi Nemo Nemon,

Sorry for the late response, I suggest to avoid Seiken Douharai, that card is an extremely high risk card and usually with not much reward. I currently have 3x Seiken Douharai and whatever I try I cannot seem to make it work.

Soul Stealer is actually a very good card. Since the buff to the healing I prefer it much more than Kurama Itto and Oni Thrust. I use 3x of them in substitute for Tsuka Splitter. The games are quite long but I usually come out on top.

From the looks of your deck, I would take out Poison Breath, Kurama Itto, Seiken Douharai and grab a 3rd Tsuka Splitter, and perhaps 2 Soul Stealers. Alternatively, you can also take out Heshikirigari for a 3rd Soul Stealer, I feel the heal from Heshikirigari is not as reliable because not many characters "need" to focus, if you know what I mean. Hope this helps =]

  8. I'm actually 1350 kazuya player, do you think a perfect yosh build can break 1400+ ranking atm ?

Which build is the best for yosh in the current meta. I dont care to wait for 10+ min / game if i know i have the most powerfull build possible as yoshimitsu.

    Looking for your answer.

    1. I don't thinks it exists a 1400 points Yoshimitsu. He is still the weakest of the decks. I am not aware of any of the top 100 players playing Yoshimitsu.
I think that to reach 1300 you should be VERY good. I never reached 1250, for example.

    2. Hi Inso, and Kubric,

Sorry for the lateness in my reply.

3 weeks ago, I played a Yoshimitsu and finished in 1340, 1330, and this last week I didn't play at all (lol, I was too busy to play, hence the lateness of my response). I can recommend the build I used for both weeks. The games are VERY VERY long, and consists of mainly blocking a LOT and waiting for good times to strike. The games are not as long versus non-Lili players, but versus Lili (which there are a TON of in the 1300+) the games can take maybe 30 minutes. This goes the same for Yoshimitsu's with Soul Stealers as well. Honestly, if you have more patience than the opposition, you should be able to win, but if your patience is tied, then whoever has the unstable connection will lose.

For the deck, I will create another post about it in the hour.

    1. Hi Sincerity,

      Sorry for the lateness.
Honestly, Magatama is such a GREAT card, I would never think of playing Yoshimitsu with the intention to win and not use Magatama. If you really cannot afford Magatama (and I am assuming no other SR cards), I suppose Heshikirigari is your next best substitute. There really is no substitute for Magatama.

    1. Hi Anonymous,

Apologies for the late response. I would suggest the 165 HP Yoshimitsu - II power card. Reasons being Shisetsu Genman, and because the 5 extra HP at maximum Health. The 160 HP Power card is just very susceptible to OHKO's (one hit KO's)

    1. Hi Sincerity,

I believe my Yoshimitsu - Deck 03 is a Iwatsubute deck. It is very fun, sadly it is also VERY risky and will never be viable in high level play. Versus a 130 HP Lili, getting first card Oni Kick Combo and Iwatsubute ends the game with 1 strike, it is quite hilarious, I have only done that twice in my life.

  12. I have been trying a couple of different decks. I would like your comments

The first tries to take advantage from the blocks, which are quite common with yoshimitsu. It is very solid and can deliver very powerful blows, thanks to the Nozuki Fumi +10 to kick cards, but it has to be "charged" with a block:
    - 3x Shisetsu Genman
    - 3x Fubuki
    - 3x Nozuchi Fumi (base!)
    - 3x Sakanobori
    - Tobi Ushiwaka
    - Kimon Matagi
    - Magatama

The second is more balanced and is performing quite well (it is the one I am currently using). It has good healing performance and good damage at the same time.(all rare cards, no base):
    - 3x Nozuchi Fumi
    - 3x Tsuka Splitter
    - 3x Shisetsu Genman
    - 3x Soul Stealer
    - Heshikirigari
    - Kimon Matagi
    - Magatama

    Any suggestion to improve?

    1. Hi Kubric,

Your first deck is something I tried in my earlier days as Yoshimitsu. It is very slow and the Nozuchi Fumi can boost enemy's cards. I would imagine it will perform quite well against Punch decks, or Kazuya decks, but it has its weaknesses against other decks such as Xiaoyu or hybrid decks. Personally, I hate Fubuki and the idea of having to "charge" so I would never try this deck. Haha

Regarding your second deck, I would take out Heshikirigari, and grab some Parry from Sakanobori. The parry is so key in the current meta. Paired with Shisetsu Genman and Soul Stealer, the deck becomes very safe.

Your 2nd deck is actually VERY similar to the one I will post, keep your eyes opened for Yoshimitsu - 5

  13. Interesting decks. The first is good I think untile 1150 points, but after sucks. The second is the deck I would play, but I have no Magatama and other three cards (a Tsuka, a Nozuchi and a Soul). I would substitute Magatama for poison breath. What about Sakanobori instead of Soul stealer? Which is your points now?

    ReplyDelete
  14. This deck was born as a healing one. This is the reason for Soul Stealer. I think Sakanobori could work too. I am also considering Spirited Away or Dragonfly Fist instead of SS, to add speed, at the expense of healing, but maybe without magatama it is too much.

I usually float in the 1500-1200 points range

    ReplyDelete
  15. you mean too less heal?
currently I am using three decks, but I don't which cards to buy and in which order (normally I buy 1-2 cards a week, so I don't know if to buy before Tsuka Splitter or Soul Stealer or Nozuchi Fumi...):

    - 2x Soul Stealer
    - Heshikirigari
    - Kimon Matagi
    - Poison Breath
    - 1x Mumyo Juji Ken (under 1150 points... where there are a lot of Kazuya)
    - 1x Oni Kick Combo (under 1150 points... where there are a lot of Kazuya)
    - 1x Fubuki (under 1150 points... where there are a lot of Kazuya)

    DEFENSIVE:

    - 3x Shisetsu Genman
    - 2x Tsuka splitter
    - 3x Sakanobori
    - 2x Soul Stealer
    - Kurama Itto
    - Kimon Matagi
    - Tobi Ushiwaka
    - Kamikaze
    - 1x Nozuchi Fumi

    - 1x Seiken Douharai
    - 1x Sakanobori
